“Best Edition” Award for New Edition of the Fourth Symphony

Volume 4 of the New Critical Complete Edition, edited by Renate Stark-Voit (2021)

For the second time, after Volume V of the Supplement to the NKG, Titan GMW 11.2, published by Stephen Hefling in 2019, a volume of the New Critical Complete Edition has now received the German Music Edition Prize BEST EDITION: In April 2023 the prize was awarded to the NKG volume of the Fourth Symphony GMW 37, edited by Renate Stark-Voit, which was published at the end of 2021. In its justification, the jury of the Deutsche Musikverleger-Verband (DMV) praised the volume as “a scholarly edition that leaves nothing to be desired with beautiful facsimile illustrations that break up the two-column design, an English glossary, and a detailed foreword on the genesis, performance and editorial history, and notes on performance practice.”

“The present complete edition volume is exemplary in every respect, in that it describes the extensive genesis and revision history of the work in epic breadth and also presents the excessively detailed critical report in German. Everything that could be of interest to the performers from an authentic source has found its way here and is made transparent in an exemplary manner. There is no question that this edition is the authoritative basis for future performances and discussions.” (Neue Musikzeitung, 05/2022, Christoph Schlüren)
