Complete Recording of Mahler’s Symphonies under Hiroshi Wakasugi in the IGMS Archive

Donation of the elusive recordings of one of the leading Japanese Mahler interpreters to the society’s media archive

The IGMS received the skillfully designed CD box as a generous gift from Yoko Yamada. The recordings of the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra under Wakasugi were made between 1988 and 1991. They include rarely recorded versions such as the five-movement “Titan” version of the First Symphony and the early version of the symphonic poem Todtenfeier as the opening movement of the Second Symphony. In addition to detailed comments in Japanese, the extensive CD booklets also contain a wealth of musical examples and reproductions of musical sources.
