Torsten Haferlach becomes an honorary member of the IGMS

The collector of Mahler-related autographs, letters and documents has been supporting the digitization of the IGMS archive since 2021

The International Gustav Mahler Society has awarded advisory board member Torsten Haferlach honorary membership in recognition of his outstanding services to the Society. Since August 2021, his generous support has enabled the ambitious implementation of a new website and catalog concept for the IGMG, which has made it possible to participate in the “Digital Cultural Heritage” project (2023–2024) and transform the Society’s holdings into a digital archive. As a collector of Mahler-related autographs, letters, and documents, he is building up a significant private collection with the aim of creating an online museum, the holdings of which have been regularly featured in the News about Mahler Research for several years.

Torsten Haferlach is a senior researcher in internal medicine with a focus on hematology and internal oncology. In 2005, he founded the MLL MVZ (Munich Leukemia Laboratory, Medical Care Center for Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Internal Oncology). This practice diagnoses and treats patients with malignant diseases. The affiliated MLL Munich Leukemia Laboratory is the largest specialized laboratory in the world today (https://www.mll.com).
