Mahler Researcher Knud Martner Has Passed Away

The Danish pioneer of Mahler research published fundamental reference studies

On December 31, 2024, Knud Martner died in Copenhagen. He was awarded the IGMS’s Golden Mahler Medal in 2007 for his great services to Mahler research. In addition to editions of letters, he published the important reference work Mahler's Concerts, which was first self-published in German in 1985 under the title Gustav Mahler im Konzertsaal and then in an expanded English edition by the Kaplan Foundation in 2010. By focusing on Mahler the performer, Martner anticipated current trends in musical performance research at an early stage.
