Symphonic masterpieces
Mahler’s 4th Symphony in a new chamber orchestra version, accompanied by works of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. You will experience the poignant final movement of Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, and Max Bruch’s popular 1st Violin Concerto with the 18-year-old virtuoso Yuki Serino. Mahlers monumental 6th Symphony, interpreted by the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano, a chamber ensemble arrangement of Mahler’s 10th Symphony, and Beethoven’s 4th Symphony are also on the program.
Intimate chamber music and fascinating ensembles
Viennese Lieder for the 150th birthday of Ludwig Gruber and Arnold Schönberg will be presented, as well as piano works by Beethoven, Fauré and Chopin. Hubert Stuppner will be honored by the Romanian Arcadia Quartet & friends, while works by Dvořák will be performed by the Esperanza Ensemble from Liechtenstein and the Czech Škampa Quartet.
Innovation and discovery
Works by young composers will be premiered by the El Cimarrón Ensemble and the Pustertal Valley quintet "Die Blechzinnen". The Euregio Youth Wind Orchestra will perform, and a free music workshop for children will be offered. A book about Mahler’s daughter Anna will be presented and an exhibition, in cooperation with the UNIKA association, entitled “Das Lied von der Erde” will be on display during the entire festival.
Musicological exploration
During the international symposium “Gustav Mahler’s Sound: Between Creative Process, Interpretation and Reception”, renowned experts from all over the world will shed light on Mahler’s sound world from various perspectives, with lectures and discussion contributions in German and English.
