Travel directions:
  • By car:
    1. Westautobahn, Route A1, the East-West freeway connecting Salzburg with Vienna
    2. Exit Seewalchen, approx. 60 km east of Salzburg
    3. Federal route 152 on the east bank of the Attersees 15 km south to Steinbach
    4. In Seefeld (before you get to Steinbach proper!) the Gasthaus Föttinger is on the right-hand side of the main road. "You can't miss it." They are very friendly and will give you the key and directions to the cabin.
  • By train and bus:
    1. Starting point: the railroad station Attnang-Puchheim, on the main line from Salzburg to Vienna. Most trains stop there (but not all).
    2. At least one express train every hour from Salzburg and Vienna.
    3. Buses for Steinbach leave from the Attnang-Puchheim bus station (2 Minutes walk from the train station). You have to change in Bad Ischl or Vöcklabruck or change to a boat in Unterach. By bus, get out in Seefeld, don't go all the way to Steinbach!
    4. After you have gotten a look at the bus schedules, and the way they do not fit together with the train schedule, you will wonder what a taxi costs. The answer: Attnang-Puchheim to Steinbach one-way about 40 Euro.
    5. The best way to get there is with your own car (see above).
