In the summer of 1886 Gustav Mahler moved in to an apartment at Gottschedstr. 4/II. On February 1, 1887 he moved to Gustav-Adolf-Str. 12 and lived there until the spring of 1888.
While in Leipzig, Mahler was engaged at the Neues Theater am Augustusplatz. The theater director was Max Staegemann. One of his colleagues was Arthur Nikisch.
